Antique Automobile Club Celebrates 50 Years

Join the Fort Smith Museum of History to celebrate fifty years of the Fort Smith Antique Automobile Club. 

The club was formed in 1962 to bring together car lovers interested in saving the history of the American automobile through preservation.

View a 1929 Ford Model A truck, a 1931 Model A sedan, a 1939 Oldsmobile, a 1961 Ford Thunderbird and much more. 

The event will be held Saturday, Aug. 4 from 10 a. m. – 2 p. m. at the  Fort Smith Museum of History located at 320 Rogers Avenue. For more information call (479) 783-7841.

 

Bentonville Intersection Becomes 4-Way Stop

On Friday, July 20, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the intersection of NW “A” and NW 2nd Street (by Harps grocery store) will temporarily become a 4-way stop intersection.  The existing intersection currently requires stops on NW 2nd, but the through traffic on NW “A” does not. 

On Friday, all four legs of the intersection will be required to stop. 

This is being done due to several factors which have increased traffic at that intersection, one of which is the current closure of E.

Verizon Wireless customers in communities along Interstate 40 from Little Rock to Fort Smith now have seamless coverage of Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) network.

The speed of Verizon’s 4G LTE network allows customers who live in the Arkansas River Valley, or who are traveling along Interstate 40, to easily stream video and music, share photos, download files and surf the Internet without buffering, using connectivity speeds up to 10 times faster than other networks.

Fort Smith Drivers Prepare for Overnight Lane Closures

Drivers can expect lane closures and short-term road closures on Interstate 540 in the area of Highway 45 in Fort Smith over the next couple of weeks.

The State Highway and Transportation Department said the closures are necessary to allow contractors to remove form work from under the bridge being constructed to carry traffic from Highway 45 (Old Greenwood Road) over I-540.

Traffic on I-540 will be restricted to one northbound lane beginning at 10 p.m. on June 4. From midnight to 5:00 a.m.

Smith Auto Group in Fort Smith has purchased Hendren Auto Group in Pineville, Missouri, on the outskirts of Bella Vista, Arkansas. The dealership is located off of Hwy 71 next to Macadoodles on Route 00.

Hendren Auto Group consists of 3 dealerships - Chevrolet, Ford and Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Ram. Kim Hendren and the Hendren family began their operations in the automotive business in 1988.

Sebastian County Highway Repaved after Contractor Makes Mistake

A Sebastian County highway is repaved after a construction company makes a mistake. Tax payers say they want to know if that’s money out of their pockets.

Highway 22 expanded from two lanes to five back in 2010, but the highway department says they had some problems with construction along the way.

"Last phase was the paving portion of it,” says District Construction Engineer Chad Adams, “Some of the asphalt didn't reach our quality standards that we have."
