Land swap adds acreage to park, more opportunities for hikers & canoeists

In the midst of election week stories and activities, the generosity of a private citizen in Fort Smith has gone largely unnoticed. A land swap and donation of land between Bill Hanna and the City of Fort Smith will enable hikers, canoeists and kayakers public access to the Arkansas River from Carol Ann Cross Park. The swap was approved Tuesday night, November 6 by the Fort Smith Board of Directors.

Arvest Bank renews support of Fort Smith Juniors Volleyball

Arvest Bank is renewing its support of the Fort Smith Juniors (FSJ) Volleyball program, which will help the club move into a new practice facility at 4721 Zero St. in Fort Smith.  With a new location, FSJ officials also have set a schedule for team tryouts (See schedule below).

Arvest has committed to a three-year, $5,000 a year sponsorship to support the program.

FSJ (www.fortsmithjuniors.com) was founded in 1994, and has enjoyed significant growth since that time, to include becoming a program that brings thousands of players and their families to the Fort Smith area.

Sallisaw Main Street will be sponsoring the 1st annual Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk on November 17 at 8 a.m.

Early registration is available at https://earlysignup.com/sallitrot with on-site registration beginning at 7 a.m. the morning of the race.

Early registration will guarantee a Turkey Trot T-Shirt and a goody bag.

Early registration is $20 and race day will be $25.

Razorbacks Unveil iPhone App

The University of Arkansas Athletics Department is re-launching an improved iPhone application for the 2012-13 season.

The app is free and gives fans access to news, schedule, scores, rosters and bios, live stats, photos, facilities, Twitter feeds and a game day page.

Drought Affects Lakes’ Water Level

All seven of Bella Vista Village’s lakes are experiencing significant water loss due to the statewide drought. 

The Property Owners Association is alerting members and guests using the lakes of potential dangers, including submerged items being closer to the surface, which could cause safety issues and/or damage to boats.
