Arkansas Tech-Ozark sets new enrollment record

OZARK – As Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus continues to celebrate its 10th anniversary of joining the Arkansas Tech System, the campus is proud to announce even more good news. With a preliminary enrollment of 2,156 students this semester, Arkansas Tech-Ozark has set a new fall enrollment record – making it the ninth consecutive year. Enrollment figures for fall 2013 became official as of the end of the 11th class day for the semester, which was Thursday, Sept. 12.

Incoming freshmen at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith heard words of advice, recited the student pledge and sang the alma mater. They also had a little fun during the New Student Convocation held Aug. 18.

James Perry, a 2006 graduate who now teaches third grade at Sunnymede Elementary School, was a cheerleader when he was a UAFS student. He kept that role during the event at Stubblefield Center, complete with megaphone, but he ended his comments with advice, challenging the students to become involved in campus activities.

2013-14 Leadership Franklin County announced

Leadership Franklin County Director Marci Gage of Ozark is pleased to announce that the program’s 2013-14 class has been selected.

Housed at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus, Leadership Franklin County develops current and emerging leaders to work together to serve the good of Franklin County and surrounding Arkansas River Valley communities.

From August through May, the following 18 participants will be thoroughly educated and challenged during monthly, daylong sessions as to the needs and opportunities of the regional and dynamics of social and economic change:

Career Center open house Aug. 9

The Arkansas Tech Career Center (ATCC) in Russellville will host an open house Friday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Located at 2201 S. Knoxville Ave., behind Russellville High School, ATCC is one of the largest secondary career and technical centers in Arkansas, drawing its 600-plus student enrollment from 11 area high schools in Pope, Yell and Johnson counties.

 

Tax-free weekend Aug. 3-4

OZARK – The Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus bookstore will host a tax-free weekend Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4, in which certain items may be purchased without sales tax.

The statewide holiday allows students to better afford textbooks and school supplies, as well as clothes and accessories.

The bookstore will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.
