University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Celebrates Archeology Month

The ongoing research at the Spiro Mounds will be a topic of discussion yet again at an archeological talk held on the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith campus.

Dr. George Sabo III, director of the Arkansas Archeological Survey, will present “Renewing the World: New Research at the Spiro Ceremonial Center” at 7 p.m. March 18 in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.

AHECB approves two new master’s degrees at Arkansas Tech

The Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board (AHECB) has granted approval for Arkansas Tech University to establish two new master's degrees.

Arkansas Tech will begin offering a Master of Science degree in strength and conditioning studies and a Master of Science degree in applied sociology during the fall 2014 semester.

Both program proposals were previously approved by the Arkansas Tech Board of Trustees, and the AHECB gave its approval during a meeting in Little Rock on Jan. 31.

UAFS Cuts Ribbon for Two New Food Venues

The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith held a grand opening Oct. 28 for two new additions to its food court, which have both been open for a little over a month but have already seen success with students.

UAFS Chancellor Dr. Paul B. Beran, ARAMARK Vice President Alisdair Maclean and other officials representing companies involved in the opening took part in the ribbon cutting ceremonies for Starbucks and Chick-Fil-A Express, which are located at the food court in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.

Beran said the two venues are “a substantial move for UAFS.”

Trick or Treat Trot 5K for Children's Miracle Network

Van Buren High School Freshmen Academy students and faculty will be hosting this year's Trick or Trot 5K in honor of Gabrielle Tabarez and Aaron Lookadoo.

There will be a Monster Mash Warm Up, 5K Fun Run, Tricks, and Treats! participants are encouraged to walk or run as a team/group; teams are a great way to show your support for a patient or former patient. Team names are also encouraged, with a designated area on the registration form for a team name.

90.9 FM KLRC Named Religious Station of the Year

  90.9 FM KLRC has been named Religious Station of the Year at the 2013 National Association of Broadcasters' Marconi Radio Awards. The awards were announced Thursday night at the annual NAB Marconi Radio Awards Dinner & Show held during the Radio Show conference in Orlando, Fla. The NAB Marconi Radio Awards honor radio stations and on-air personalities for excellence in broadcasting.

UAFS Employee to Appear on Iconic Game Show

Todd Koch has watched “Wheel of Fortune” for years, a self-proclaimed “Wheel Watcher” who oftentimes solves the puzzles before the contestants. But in late July, Koch did more than simply watch other contestants spin the wheel on the iconic game show: he got to spin the wheel himself.

Koch, who lives in Greenwood and has worked in the UAFS admissions office for four years, will appear as a contestant on an episode of the show airing on KFSM Channel 5 at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 27.

Arkansas Tech-Ozark holds 10th anniversary celebration

Members of the Arkansas River Valley were on hand Tuesday at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus to celebrate its 10th anniversary of joining the Arkansas Tech System.

 

Students, faculty, staff and guests gathered into the Student Services Conference Center for a formal program featuring Arkansas Tech President Robert C. Brown as the keynote speaker, followed by a lunch outside.
