Financial aid deadlines approaching

Several college financial aid deadlines for the upcoming summer and fall semesters are nearing, and Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus wants future students – as well as persons considering college – to be aware of them.

 

Financial Aid Associate Director Justina Buck said, “While some of these deadlines may seem a ways off, it’s always best to file your paperwork as soon as possible – and we can help.”

Educator Here for Concert and Conference

The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith is bringing nationally-known educator Dr. Jean Feldman to Fort Smith on June 1 to conduct an all-day workshop for early childhood professionals, preceded by a free concert on May 31.

 

The seventh annual Early Childhood Conference will be held from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. June 1 at the Fort Smith Convention Center. A registration fee of $50 per person is due by May 17. A 6 p.m. free concert May 31, which is open to the public, will be held at the Arkansas Best Corp. Performing Arts Center, 55 S. 7th St.

 

Arkansas Tech-Ozark OTA program granted full accreditation

Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus is pleased to announce that its occupational therapy assistant (OTA) program has achieved accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

 

The ACOTE accreditation lasts five years and follows an intensive self-study review and on-site visit, which was held April 1-3 at Morton Hall in Russellville, where the OTA program is housed.

Springer Signs for Full-Ride Rodeo Scholarship

Lavaca High School Senior Hannah Springer, a national rodeo champion, has signed with Southern Arkansas University to ride for their team. She recently accepted a $26,000 full-ride scholarship from SAU after considering nine different schools. Springer will compete both as an individual and with the team as part of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.

 

“The coach is awesome. He’s a father figure,” Springer said of her decision to attend SAU. “The facilities are amazing, and it just fit. It was kind of like a puzzle piece.”

Arkansas Tech-Ozark holds pinning ceremony

OZARK – Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus held its pinning ceremony Thursday, May 9, for spring 2013 graduates of the practical nursing program.

 

Several students were honored with awards voted on by their classmates, including Jessica Pruitt of Ozark, who was named “Student of the Year.” Others included Michell Henry of Clarksville, “Friendship Award;” Patricia Ihle of Ratcliff, “Best Practical Nursing Assessment Award;” and Ashley Trent of Coal Hill, “Winner Award.”

Leadership Franklin County Holds First Graduation

A graduation ceremony was held Tuesday, May 7, for the 2013 class of Leadership Franklin County – the organization’s inaugural class.

The ceremony was held at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus, where LFC is housed, and saw 18 graduates receive commemorative plaques for their completion of the program.

Relay For Life Ceremony to Honor Cancer Survivors and Remember Those Lost

Special luminaria – paper lanterns lit to represent those lost to cancer and those who have survived - will be showcased during the 2nd annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Lavaca. The event will take place at the Lavaca High School Football Field on May 10th from 7pm to 7am.
