The Nutro Company, a leading manufacturer of natural* pet food products, announced today that the Fort Smith Dog Park (Louisville St. and Massard Rd.) has been selected to receive a $2,000 grant on behalf of the ROOM TO RUN™ Dog Appreciation Project.

Sebastian County Humane Society Hosts Adopt-a-thon

October is adopt a shelter dog month.  The Sebastian County Humane Society is recognizing this national event with an adopt-a-thon at the shelter. 

The adoption event will take place October 25-27.  The shelter will be open from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. each day.

The large dog adoption fee is reduced from $80 to $40.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, the shelter will offer visitors hot dogs, chips and drinks for $2. 

The shelter has set a goal of 40 adoptions. The adoptions will make room in the kennels for needed renovations.

Dancing dogs on runways were the highlight of the 16th annual Cause for Paws held Friday night by he Sebastian County Humane Society.

The event, held at the Holiday Inn City Center in downtown Fort Smith, kicked off with a happy hour at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Fur de Lis Fashion Show at 7p.m. with 10 adoptable dogs prancing their stuff on the runway escorted by care technicians from the center.

Calling young animal lovers:

The Sebastian County Humane Society is hosting a kids day Camp! This five-day camp will be offered July 16 - 20, 2012 and is designed for children entering third through fifth grades in the fall.  It is all about the SCHS and the animals we assist on a daily basis. Through informative lessons, exciting hands-on activities, animal crafts, visits from shelter staff and other animal professionals, children will learn how to compassionately care for and co-exist with the animals in our homes and community.

The large dog adoption area of the Sebastian County Humange Society animal shelter is in need of repairs. In order accomplish the project, the shelter needs to move all large dogs out of those kennels.

They have 42 large dogs to chose from and have lowered the adoption fee by 50%. You can get a new best friend for only $40!
