Make a Brighter Holiday for the Pets of Low-Income Seniors

Affluent Dog Pet Sitting & Lifestyle Management and ELDirect In Home Elderly Care have teamed up to help seniors and their pets.

These two companies have teamed up to help build awareness and gather supplies for the Pets of Low Income Seniors this holiday season.

They are looking for donations of pet food, toys, and treats that will be used to fill gift bags for these seniors. The program is funded entirely by donations.

Ahimsa* Rescue Foundation (ARF),  a 501(c)3 established in 2004 to place homeless companion pets in loving homes in eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas, is hosting its fourth annual Saving Paws: Fun, Food and Fangs on Oct. 5 from 6-10 p.m. at Fort Smith’s Riverfront Pavilion, Front Street and North B.

A live auction will feature a stunning, limited edition Blue Dog print signed and numbered by George Rodrigue. A silent auction will feature local products from local businesses and individuals.

The Sebastian County Humane Society will host a “Purrfect Pawty” fundraising event Friday, Aug. 2 at the Holiday Inn City Center in Fort Smith.

The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with happy hour, followed by dinner at 7 p.m., a fashion show, an auction, live music by Shades of Red and dancing.

 Fort Smith Dog Park to receive $2,000 for park enhancements

The Nutro Company, a leading manufacturer of natural* pet food products, announced today that the Fort Smith Dog Park (Louisville St. and Massard Rd.) has been selected to receive a $2,000 grant on behalf of the ROOM TO RUN™ Dog Appreciation Project.

Sebastian County Humane Society Hosts Adopt-a-thon

October is adopt a shelter dog month.  The Sebastian County Humane Society is recognizing this national event with an adopt-a-thon at the shelter. 

The adoption event will take place October 25-27.  The shelter will be open from 10 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. each day.

The large dog adoption fee is reduced from $80 to $40.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, the shelter will offer visitors hot dogs, chips and drinks for $2. 

The shelter has set a goal of 40 adoptions. The adoptions will make room in the kennels for needed renovations.
