Arkansas Tech-Ozark holds pinning ceremony

OZARK – Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus held its pinning ceremony Thursday, May 9, for spring 2013 graduates of the practical nursing program.

 

Several students were honored with awards voted on by their classmates, including Jessica Pruitt of Ozark, who was named “Student of the Year.” Others included Michell Henry of Clarksville, “Friendship Award;” Patricia Ihle of Ratcliff, “Best Practical Nursing Assessment Award;” and Ashley Trent of Coal Hill, “Winner Award.”

Leadership Franklin County will hold its inaugural graduation ceremony Tuesday, May 7, at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus.

The ceremony, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will be held in the Student Services Conference Center, 1700 Helberg Lane, with a reception following.

Food for Thought Series: Coach John McDonnell – Book Talk and Film

The Fort Smith Public Library will present Food for Thought: Coach John McDonnell – Book Talk and Film on Friday, May 17, at Noon.  Join retired University of Arkansas Coach John McDonnell to celebrate the release of the book John McDonnell: The Most Successful Coach in NCAA History by Andrew Maloney and John McDonnell.  Emmy award-winning filmmaker Larry Foley will also show his short documentary on McDonnell and moderate a discussion followed by a book signing.  Bring your lunch if you wish or pick something up at Dewey’s Café; the Library

Monthly Talks at DSHS Begin May 5

Monthly Talks at DSHS Begin May 5

The Drennen-Scott Historic Site in Van Buren will host a monthly speaker series called “Crawford County Chronicles” beginning on May 5.

 

Tom Wing, DSHS site director and assistant professor of history at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, said the inaugural speaker will be local historian and lifelong Van Buren resident Fred Williams of Williams/Crawford & Associates.
