A car caught fire in Fort Smith on Friday (April 18), and authorities responded to extinguish the flames.

Arkansas Unemployment Drops Below 7 Percent

Arkansas unemployment has dropped below 7 percent.

The level is now at 6.9 percent, according to the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services website.

The website currently shows that the national unemployment rate is 6.7 percent.

Fort Smith Judge Declares Mistrial In Murder Case

Circuit Judge Michael Fitzhugh has declared a mistrial in a Fort Smith murder case.

The case of 60-year-old Kevyphonh Sounyaphong was in its third day when the mistrial was declared, according to a court official.

The jury reportedly deliberated for three hours.

Fort Smith police arrested Sounyaphong in the murder investigation of his former co-worker, Sakounsouk Vilayhong, who was found strangled in her home in January. 

Missing Albuquerque Teen Found In Fort Smith

A missing 14-year-old Albuquerque girl was located Thursday (April 17) in Fort Smith.

She was reported missing more than two weeks ago, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The teen was last seen on March 31, leaving for her school. When she didn’t show up, her parents contacted authorities. An Amber Alert was issued on April 1, 2014.

U.S. Marshals located the girl with a man named Robert Butler in Fort Smith.

Butler was taken into custody, authorities said.

Butler and the girl met online according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

“I couldn’t believe it. I thought there were going to be like maybe 3 or 4 houses there,” Iddo Goldberg (“Isaac Walton”) said.

Hartford Student Arrested After Making Threat Against Coach

A 16-year-old female Hartford High School student has been arrested after saying she wanted to “kill the school basketball coach with a knife,” according to a news release from Investigator Philip Pevehouse with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 1 p.m. on April 14, Sebastian County deputies responded to the Hartford High School in reference to threats.

Suspect Steals Computer From Fort Smith Rehab Hospital

A white male suspect allegedly entered the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital on South J Street and stole a Dell desktop computer, according to a news release from the Fort Smith Police Department.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday (March 2) at approximately 4:50 p.m. The suspect entered an office area and allegedly took the device, according to the news release.
