Sparks & Mercy Pitch in for Local Charity | Health
Sparks Health System and Mercy Fort Smith are once again taking a swing at some friendly competition.
This weekend, members of the Emergency Departments at Sparks Regional Medical Center and Mercy Fort Smith are swapping their scrubs for sweats. Teams from both hospitals are stepping up to the plate for the second annual ER Softball Challenge.
This year’s inter-hospital matchup is a fundraiser for the Gregory Kistler Treatment Center, an organization that provides support and learning opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities. All proceeds from concession and t-shirt sales at the event will be donated to the organization.
Our local hospital hitters aren’t the only emergency services squads getting into the game. The Fort Smith Fire Department, EMS and Air-Evac teams will also have their equipment on display at the event for kids to explore.
The Sparks Sparkans and Mercy Team Traumatizers will face off at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at Ben Geren Regional Park, softball field 3. The park is located at 7200 Zero St., Fort Smith.
Last year’s battle between the cross-town rivals raised nearly $300 for the Arkansas Children’s Miracle Network. In 2011, the Sparkans tamed the Team Traumatizers in a slugfest. The final score was 34-25.
