Greenwood Man Shot in the Chest | Crime
According to police, a Greenwood man was shot in the chest after an argument with another man.
Greenwood police loaded up evidence bags outside a house on East Joplin Street Monday night. Officers say Tyler Akins, 18, shot his uncle Aaron Baldwin, 34, around 5:15 p.m.
"There was a gentleman standing out at the end of the driveway and he had a bunch of blood running down his arm,” said Bobby Shackelford, a neighbor.
Police believe Akins and Baldwin argued via text message first. "The uncle came over here to talk to the nephew about that, some kind of family dispute, and at some point got shot,” said Chief Will Dawson.
Investigators say Akins pointed the gun at Baldwin. Officers say Akins told police grandma said put the gun down, and when he did it went off. Investigators say Akins claims the bullet ricocheted off the concrete and hit Baldwin. Chief Dawson said officers found the spot where the bullet ricocheted.
"That's the early indication that it was a shot gun and possibly a slug,” said Chief Dawson.
Paramedics transported Baldwin to Sparks Regional Medical Center. Police say he suffered a punctured lung and had to have surgery Monday night.
Police plan to interview Baldwin on Tuesday.
