Fort Smith Firefighters Promoted

The Fort Smith Fire Department recognized the outstanding achievements of two of its firefighters Friday (April 26).

Michael DeAtley was promoted from driver to captain after serving more than 15 years with the department. Heath Shofner was promoted from firefighter to driver after serving more than 13 years.

Both men were accompanied by their families who took part in the pinning ceremony. The chief says the ceremony, which the department began a few years ago, is a great way to acknowledge their accomplishments.

Sparks Goes to Bat for Local Charity

Sparks Health System is once again stepping up to the plate to host a fundraiser benefiting a local children’s charity.

Staff from area hospitals, fire departments, police stations and emergency response teams are gearing up to participate in the third annual ER Softball Challenge.  The tournament will take place beginning at noon Saturday, April 27 at Ben Geren Regional Park, 7200 Zero St., Fort Smith.
