Special PJ Train Ride Raises Money for Charity

Passengers aboard the Arkansas and Missouri train rode from the Fort Smith Trolley Museum to the Van Buren Train Depot on this special pajama run of the Exploring with Happy’s Christmas Train Saturday night.

Along with the caroling, there were and hot chocolate and cookies for everyone. Best of all, event organizer Brittany Frazier says it raised money for a good cause.

Calico County Closed Due to Fire Damage

Calico County was forced to shutdown after a fire damaged the restaurant early Monday morning.

Police were alerted to the fire after receiving a call from an alarm company that a commercial burglary alarm went off at approximately 2:37 a.m. Monday, according to dispatchers with the Fort Smith Police Department.

Fort Smith police arrived at the scene and alerted the fire department when smoke was seen coming from the building.

VIDEO: Creekmore Holiday Express Begins

The annual Holiday Express through Creekmore Park in Fort Smith made a special run Friday night to offer Thanksgiving travelers a preview of the Christmas festivities. 

The formal kickoff to the Creekmore Holiday Express begins at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3 with the a steam engine, fireworks, and music. 

Rides are 25 cents per person. Rides will be offered every evening except Sunday after the official kickoff.

Fort Smith speech pathologist who’s blind wins service award

Speech pathologist Rebekah Shaver of Fort Smith has overcome a mountain of her own obstacles relating to blindness and now has taken on the challenge of helping children with autism.

For her determination to overcome adversity, succeed in her career, and serve others, she has been named as an area Consumer of the Year (COY) by the Department of Human Services Division of Services for the Blind (DSB).

Area shoppers flooded Cabela’s at the Pinnacle Hills Promenade. The doors opened at 5 a.m. and a line of shoppers that nearly touched Target spilled inside.

Cabela’s staff set up fire pits and gave away raffles to customers.

In the River Valley, business at the Fort Smith Pavilion was steady all morning.
